Entrance is pleased to present Nachtschicht, a 3-day exhibition in the gallery lower level by New York based artist Nikola Burnett.

Nachtschicht refers to a gradual nightly transition from human to object. In the apartment my mother has been living in for over 30 years are carefully chosen and inherited toys and handmade heirlooms. Upon my grandmothers passing, I felt that a part of all three of us was present in this collection of things. Wearing the dresses that she designed and passed down to me anointed me as the puppet master of each scene. I wanted to live alongside them, as one of them. A band of animals if I let them speak to me. I reprimand them, birth them, lead them. Becoming one of them, I can solidify the space between the apartment floor and the afterlife above. Having only 25 minutes on sunny mornings to set up each shot in the right conditions, over the course of 6 weeks I built a nightly practice of sailing this ship out of dark waters.
